The roots of Oticon can fetch back to 1904, when Hans Demant, driven by his desire to help his wife improve her hearing, travelled to England to buy a hearing device before taking it back to Denmark. His son, William, later co-founded Oticon in 1946. Oticon changed the hearing aid industry forever in 1996 by launching the world’s first fully digital hearing aid called ‘DigiFocus’. In 2004, now a truly global brand and world’s second largest manufacturer of hearing devices, they began supplying the first digital hearing aids that became available on the NHS. More recently, Oticon released the world’s first internet-enabled hearing aid called ‘Opn’ that can connect to the ‘Internet of Things’ (IoT).
