This allows for your hearing aids to be used as a wireless headset for hands-free calls. The Audéo B50-Direct is the standard model of three available technology levels.

IMPORTANT: Hearing aids are medical devices that require the clinical expertise of an Audiologist or Hearing Aid Audiologist to perform a comprehensive hearing assessment and verification of fitting. This is to ensure the hearing aids have been correctly and optimally programmed to suit your individual hearing loss, ear acoustics and listening needs. Additionally, some of the technological features described may not be as effective or suitable depending upon the severity and nature of your hearing loss. A fully qualified and registered Audiologist or Hearing Aid Audiologist will be able to advise accordingly.

Real-world benefit

Made For All (MFA) Yes The hearing aid can connect to any mobile phone with compatible Bluetooth to allow for direct streaming of conversation into the ear.
AutoSense OS 3

The hearing aids automatically analyse and adapt in different listening environments to provide the best possible listening experience.

Channels 12

The hearing aid ‘splits’ and ‘separates’ incoming sound into its different frequencies before processing each frequency channel independently based on the listening environment, listening needs and hearing loss of the individual. This helps provide a higher resolution and more natural sound quality.

Gain Handles 12

This relates to the number of frequency channels that can be adjusted to personalise the hearing aid to your specific hearing loss, listening needs and ear acoustics to help provide a more natural and crisper sound quality.

Programmes 3

For a more personalised fitting the hearing aids can be adjusted and specifically programmed for different listening environments, such as music, outdoors, party, restaurant etc.

NoiseBlock Yes

Reduces unwanted background noise in noisy situations to reduce listening effort and improve speech understanding.

WindBlock No Dampens wind noise when outdoors to reduce listening effort and improve speech understanding.
EchoBlock No

Reduces echoes in large and reverberant rooms, such as high ceiling halls and hard surfaced restaurants.

SoundRelax No

Instantly dampens sudden loud sounds that occur in the environment so that they are not uncomfortable.

Real Ear Sound Yes

Mimics how the folds and crease of the outer ear help to locate whether sounds are coming from behind or front of you. In addition, its helps to provide a more natural and realistic sound quality.

Speech in Car No

Automatically detects when travelling in a car before reducing unwanted car and road noise to reduce listening effort and improve speech understanding.

Comfort in Echo No

Detects and reduces the volume of echoes to ensure the listening environment is comfortable.

UltraZoom Standard

Detects sounds from all around when in a quiet place before quickly switching focus towards speech even if to the side or behind you when in a noisy place.

SoundRecover 2 Yes

Automatically converts and squashes high frequency sounds when detected that cannot be heard by a listener due to their hearing loss into a lower frequency so they can be heard.

FlexControl Yes

Volume adjustments made in specific listening environments are learned by the hearing aid and automatically applied.

FlexVolume Yes

When volume is increased, more emphasis is provided to the important speech frequencies to improve speech clarity. On the other hand when volume is decreased, a greater reduction in sound is applied for frequencies that make up background noise to provide listening comfort and maintain speech understanding.

User Preference Tuning Yes

The hearing aid remembers the overall changes made with both FlexControl and FlexVolume and automatically applies them for you.

WhistleBlock Yes

Eliminates unwanted whistling from the hearing aid.

QuickSync Yes

Volume adjustments and program changes made on one hearing aid are automatically transferred to the opposite hearing.

TinnitusBalance Yes

Helps the brain become distracted from tinnitus by instead listening to a selection of masking noise sounds.

auto Acclimatization Yes

The hearing aid can gradually increase in volume automatically over a specified period of time to help listeners gradually adapt and acclimatise to wearing them.

Environmental balance Yes

The hearing aid volume of surrounding environmental sounds can be adjusted versus streamed signals from the phone or telephone to improve listening ability.

Demonstration of the True hands free functionality with Audéo B-Direct

This clip demonstrates the true hands free nature of Phonak’s new Audéo B-Direct product. A colleague filmed me making a call to my own voice mail when driving the car. I have an iPhone so used Siri to dial the number and the microphones on the Audéo B-Direct of the preferred phone ear picked up my voice. In the clip, we switch between the sound recorded in the car (car icon) and the voice message (tape icon) to demonstrate the sound quality of the own voice pick up in Audéo B-Direct.
